Shana's Story
As we start Warrior Week here at Jesse James Beads… we have a personal reason for wanting everyone to pay attention and get your mammograms.
THIS… is my story.
I have been with JJCO for 25 years… nearly half my lifetime. I’ve celebrated marriages, mourned deaths of employees, celebrated births, and grown up here. We are a company based on creativity, collaboration, and togetherness. In August of last year, I brought another component to our family… Breast Cancer.
There was no warning. A routine mammogram… and then things went the other direction. Aspiration, biopsy, surgery, chemo, radiation, chemo… when was this going to end? Losing my eyelashes and chemo fog was awful. It felt like the never-ending year.
Chemo was bad, but radiation for me was like the evil stepmother… think Cinderella x 10! No one ever warns you about radiation because chemo sucks. For anyone who knows me, I’m a pretty determined person, but radiation threw me for a loop. Exhaustion kicked in and I was very very tired.
Attitude is everything. I was lucky. I am lucky. To all of our customers and clients who were wondering what happened or where I was… I never really left… I was just fighting a battle in the wings. A battle that was supported by our team here. I couldn’t have done it without the encouragement I received from my work family.
So this month… Wear pink! Honor a fighter, a survivor, or someone who is no longer here. They are all warriors, and our Jesse James Beads team supports them.

As we kick off Warrior Week at Jesse James Beads, we have a deeply personal reason to remind everyone: get your mammograms. Last August, a routine screening turned into my own grueling, year-long battle with breast cancer. Through the exhaustion of chemo and radiation, the unwavering support of my JJB work family kept me fighting. I am incredibly lucky to be a survivor. This month, we wear pink to honor the fighters, the survivors, and those we’ve lost. Tell us: who is the Warrior you wear pink for this October? — Shana Kremus
