Moon Wire Wrap Suncatcher Tutorial

Moon Wire Wrap Suncatcher Tutorial

How to Make an Over the Moon Suncatcher

Create a dreamy, light-catching piece with this simple step-by-step guide!

Step 1: Add Teardrop Beads to the Moon Frame

Start at the top of the moon frame where the long and short curves meet. Using 26-gauge wire, wrap the wire a few times around this top section to secure it in place.

Begin adding your teardrop beads along the longer curve of the moon. Slide each bead onto the wire, then wrap the wire back around the frame to hold it securely. Continue this process, spacing the beads evenly as you move down the curve.

Once you reach the bottom, finish by wrapping the wire several times to secure it. Leave about 6 inches of extra wire for the next step.

Step 2: Add the Focal Bead

Create a dangle by adding a head pin to your crystal bead. Since the hole on this bead is large, we are going to use the 2 metal spacer beads on the top and bottom to prevent the focal from falling off your headpin.

Using the leftover wire from Step 1, begin wrapping around the smaller curve at the top of the moon frame.  Wrap the wire a few times to secure it, then leave a small loose section to form a loop—this is where you’ll attach a jump ring for your focal bead.

After forming the loop, continue wrapping the remaining wire on the opposite side to secure everything in place.

Step 3: Add the Hanging Chain

Take the 8" length of chain and attach it to the top of your moon frame using a jump ring. Then, add the included soldered ring to the other end of the chain to create a loop for hanging.

And you’re done—your suncatcher is ready to catch the light and sparkle beautifully!
