These adorable lip balm keychains or charms are the perfect DIY project for gifts, party favors, or just a fun craft for a girl's night or sleepover. They’re easy, affordable, and completely customizable!

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Lip balm or lip gloss (with plastic packaging)
  • Large sewing needle or thumb tack
  • 10mm jump rings
  • Pliers
  • Keychain hooks (optional, for keychains)
  •  charms of your choice
  • 0.8mm elastic thread (for beaded chains on keychains)
  • Beads (optional, for keychains)

Instructions:

Step 1: Create a Hole in the Lip Balm

Use a large sewing needle or thumb tack to create a small hole in the thick plastic part of the lip balm's top right or left corner. Be sure the hole is close enough to the edge so the jump ring can close properly, but not too close that it weakens the plastic.

Step 2: Insert the Jump Ring

Insert a 6mm-10mm jump ring into the hole. This size allows enough space to add charms later. If you're making a keychain, attach the keychain hook at this point. If you're making a simple charm, the jump ring alone is sufficient.

Step 3: Add Charms

This is the fun part—adding your charms! You can personalize your keychain or charm with a variety of lightweight charms. For extra flair, you can add a small chain to dangle additional charms or create a chain of charms using extra jump rings. Keep it light so it’s comfortable to carry around in your pocket or purse.

(Optional for Keychains) Step 4: Make the Beaded Chain

If you're creating a keychain, you can add a beaded chain for extra decoration:

  1. Cut a piece of 0.8mm elastic thread and make a slipknot about the width of your pinky.
  2. Tie two knots at the base of the slipknot with both ends of the thread to secure it.
  3. Thread beads onto both strings, making sure the chain isn't longer than the lip balm itself.
  4. Once the beads are in place, tie two more knots at the end, making sure the knot is larger than the bead next to it to prevent slipping.

(Optional for Keychains) Step 5: Attach the Chain and Hook

Slide the beaded chain onto the jump ring, along with the keychain hook if you haven’t already attached it. You can decide whether to add the chain or hook first.

Step 6: Close the Jump Ring

Use pliers to gently close the jump ring, securing all of your charms, chain, and keychain hook in place.

That’s it—you’ve created your own unique lip balm keychain or charm! The best part? You can reuse the keychain by simply adding a hole to your next lip gloss and swapping out the charms to match your style!
