How to Make a Cage Style Suncatcher

STEP 1: Attaching the Large Flower Crystal

Cut two 1" pieces of 18 gauge wire and form large loops to act as DIY jump rings. Attach one loop through the flower crystal and connect it using a 6mm jump ring to a 1.5" section of gold chain.

On the other end of the chain, add another 6mm jump ring. Attach this assembly to the inside top of the cage by using the second DIY wire loop, securing it at the pinnacle where all cage sides meet and the hanging hook is located.

STEP 2: Add Drop Crystal at the Bottom

Create another DIY jump ring using 18 gauge wire and attach it through the top of the long drop crystal. Use two 6mm jump rings to connect this drop to the bottom point of the cage, allowing it to hang freely and center the design.

STEP 3: Wire Wrapping the Top-Drilled Teardrop Beads

Divide your 24 gauge wire into five 4.5" sections. These will be used to create wrapped bead clusters at each corner of the diamond-shaped cage frame.

Secure the wire by wrapping one end around the cage bar. String on your beads one at a time, wrapping between each bead to secure it in place—building a stack of three beads per section. Finish by tightly wrapping the remaining wire to secure. Repeat this process for the remaining four sections.

STEP 4: Add Crystal Dangles Between Sections

To finish the design, add dangles between each wire-wrapped bead section.

Cut five 1" pieces of gold chain. Attach one end of each chain to the cage bar using a 6mm jump ring, positioned between each wrapped section. On the opposite end of each chain, attach another 6mm jump ring and connect a drop crystal.

Repeat this process until all five dangles are added, spacing them evenly around the cage.
