Random Acts Of Kindness Ft. Beads of Courage

About Beads Of Courage

One of the best organizations to display Random Acts of Kindness is our favorite philanthropy, Beads of Courage. BOC is headed up by Jean Gribbon, who identifies herself as a "Nurse of Science on a Quest to Advance Caring for Others through Beads." Jean and her Team at Beads of Courage inspire hope and honor courage to children suffering cancer and other debilitating diseases via beads. They are a spirit lifting organization. Jean was inspired to create Beads of Courage after a personal experience as a child when a friend was diagnosed with Cancer.

"The year was 1979 and I had just turned five years old. I loved to visit my friend Miles. He lived on a horse farm and we would have fun exploring the outdoors and watching the horses. After one visit, I was told by my mom that Miles had cancer. I didn’t know what that meant exactly, but I knew that it was something to be worried about. As time passed, I knew that cancer was slowly taking away my friend. With each visit, there was a dramatic decline in his function. We would no longer play outside. I remember how tired he was and within a short period of time, he could no longer sit upright in his bed. He would watch me play on his Atari and although at five years of age there wasn’t a lot I could do, I knew that my visits made him happy. It gave me comfort that he wasn’t alone during a time that was clearly very scary for us both. Within a year, Miles died." -Jean Gribbon, Beads Of Courage

Beads of Courage has several programs designed to help children with a variety of needs. Below is a video from Beads of Courage explaining each program they offer:

Why Beads?

Beads signify Strength and Courage, many ancient and modern-day cultures use beads similar to metals to signify courage and bravery. In ancient cultures certain beads were believed to protect travelers from danger. Beads also have practical, every day uses and offer a wide range of crafting options to children and teens including jewelry making, crafting, sewing, and more.

Each bead from Beads of Courage represents a form of treatment the child or teen has experienced. Each collection represents the story of a child getting treatment from life-threatening diseases.

Beads of Courage beads are similar to lampwork beads. Hand-crafted with love to carry love and support to children and teens who need it.

How To Show Your Support

One of our favorite programs by Beads of Courage is the Carry-A-Bead program. The CAB Program also provides the beads we need to honor the courage of children and teens coping with cancer and other serious illnesses.

How does the Carry a Bead Program help Beads of Courage and its members? Each time you Carry a Bead, you support the mission of Beads of Courage with your $15 donation AND encourage a child in our program with the bead you carry and return. The bead you return will be given to a child on a tough treatment day or to celebrate a treatment milestone.

Everyone can Carry a Bead! It's as easy as 1-2-3:

1) CARRY: Your CAB kit contains a pair of matched beads with accompanying story card to carry or wear on an adventure big or small.

2) CONNECT: After your activity, return one bead along with your story card to be given to a child or teen in the Beads of Courage Program.

3) COLLECT: Keep one bead to symbolize your shared strength. The more times you Carry A Bead, the more beads you will have for your own strand of support.

This Random Acts of Kindness Day, Jesse James Beads will donate 20% of all proceeds from February 17, 2021 to Beads of Courage! For every $100+ order we will send you a complimentary Beads Of Courage Carry A Bead kit, a $15 value, so you can personally help support the children and teens in the Beads Of Courage program too!
