Wire-wrapped rings are a fun and easy way to break into wire-wrapping! To get started, follow along with Jem Hawkes in the video above to learn how to make a simple ring using an 8mm coin faceted stone bead. We'll be learning a few easy wire-wrapping techniques to create a flourishing spiral to accent the focal bead. Jem Hawkes will be teaching in two different colors of wire. You can make your ring in any wire color you like to personalize it.
For this project, we recommend using 18 gauge wire, an 8 mm-sized coin bead in either glass or stone, and having on hand some basic jewelry tools, including wire-cutters, bail nose pliers or round nose pliers, and flat nose pliers. We also recommend having a ring mandrel on hand to make sizing the ring easier. You can use any cylindrical-shaped item to help size your ring.
Want to take your wire-wrapped rings to the next level? Follow along with Jem Hawkes in the video above to learn how to make a ring using a few 5mm faceted stone beads. These smaller beads add a different look and feel to your ring. We will be using similar techniques to our first video as well as adding some 24 or 26-gauge wire to add more delicate detailing.
